Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 31st of March.
Good morning, Rogers.
🎭 Culture
Grammy-winning global recording artist Kali Uchis will launch her For The Girls Tour with special guest Mariah The Scientist at the Walmart AMP on Friday, May 29 — doors open at 6 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
🎓 Education
Cox Communications partners with Walmart AMP to offer 50 local educators free lawn tickets for Jim Gaffigan on Friday, May 1 and TAYLORVILLE on Saturday, May 30 — two teachers will also receive a $200 Visa gift card if selected; eligible educators within 100 miles must show proof of employment.
🌲 Environment
Burn bans remain in effect in Benton, Washington, and Madison counties due to gusty winds, low humidity, and dry ground.
Officials say rain in the forecast should lift the bans soon while controlled burns continue under active monitoring.
Fire officials say controlled burns help lower wildfire risk amid burn bans in several Northwest counties; Rogers Fire Department Deputy Chief John Vanatta explained that these prescribed fires — planned during safer weather in Feb. and March — clear forest debris and may cause harmless smoke sightings.
🏈 Sports
Deron Wilson and Eddie Hicks, former Southern Miss players, have joined Arkansas football to coach the Razorback secondary, working with head coach Ryan Silverfield and coordinator Ron Roberts.
Their long shared history is set to help rebuild the defense after a challenging season (details from their decades-long coaching career).
