Anglers report that fishing on Beaver Lake has improved as muddy waters clear.

Reese Jones at Hook said new spring tactics (including revised rig setups) are being used to boost catch rates (as fish become more active).

Fishing fans in Northwest Arkansas have many outdoor events planned this week and into mid-June, including free fishing at Wells Lake this Thursday morning, a veteran bass tournament at Beaver Lake starting Saturday at 5:45 a.m., family derbies at Centerton’s Charlie Craig State Fish Hatchery and at Lake Fort Smith State Park during free fishing weekend, youth kayaking and paddling programs in West Fork and Springdale, a snorkeling trip on the Kings River, a grass carp roundup for Bella Vista members, a catfish fishing event in Rogers on June 20, and volunteer opportunities at Beaver Lake with equipment provided — all offering locals a variety of fun, skill-building activities.

Rogers city council member Hayes Minor, a former police chief, was arrested Sunday night for DWI, speeding and following too closely on I-49 near the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd exit – he was booked at 11:51 p.m. on June 1, released on a $1,105 bond and his next court hearing is scheduled for July 7.

Bubba Carpenter and Matt Jones hosted a podcast discussing Arkansas advancing to the Fayetteville Super Regional by defeating Creighton — they also reviewed college baseball results from the regional weekend.
