COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Advocates say extreme summer heat is making it harder for the unhoused in Northwest Arkansas (especially after a recent university police sweep) to avoid dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Patrick Connelly of the Salvation Army said the two shelters can house 100 people overnight and open when temperatures remain above 100 degrees (for more than an hour), urging everyone to stay hydrated and seek shade.  4029 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Benton County man, Bryan Rice, 40, is facing a terroristic threatening charge after he allegedly sent a politically motivated text message to state Rep. Kendon Underwood—he is held at Benton County Jail on a 50,000 dollars bond and his arraignment is set for July 28.  4029 News
  • A Rogers man pleaded not guilty to charges of shooting his mother with a crossbow in Bentonville — court details have not yet been announced — and further hearings will take place.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Gas Buddy survey shows gas prices in Arkansas rose nearly seven cents per gallon in the past week due to global oil market tensions—conflicts in the Middle East and the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz are affecting supply. AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria warned that if the issues continue and the Fourth of July travel rush adds pressure, prices may rise further.  5 News

  • Officials from NWARPC launched the Transit Alternatives Study to examine fixed rail, bus rapid transit, and light rail options to improve public transportation in our region—asking residents in Rogers and nearby communities to complete the Transit Alternatives Survey by June 30. The study is part of a long-term plan to address issues like congestion and long commutes—further guiding the Forward2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan for future growth.  5 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Rogers are urged to stay hydrated and use broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to prevent heat cramps, exhaustion, and sunburn. Health experts recommend applying sunscreen 15 minutes before going outside and reapplying every two hours—steps that may help reduce heat-related illness and long-term skin damage.  4029 News
