EDUCATION NEWS

  • Greer Lingle Middle School in Rogers will reopen its doors on Aug. 13 after being damaged by a May 2024 tornado—workers spent 13 months repairing the building with new floors, paint, furniture and updated learning spaces. A safe room and gym upgrades will be completed later in the fall as an open house gives families a chance to tour the school ahead of the new year.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County leaders from Benton and Washington counties will hold their first joint meeting in Springdale on Sept. 22 to discuss regional solutions for infrastructure, housing and wastewater amid rapid growth in Northwest Arkansas. Officials say the meeting will help them share ideas—ensuring they plan for the region's expansion toward a projected one million residents over the next 20 years.  4029 News
  • Washington County Judge Patrick Deakins supports a joint meeting with Benton and Washington County quorum courts to discuss a regional growth strategy and will propose the idea at tonight's meeting + the Northwest Arkansas Council plans to host a follow-up gathering on Sept.22 in Springdale.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Rogers School Board voted Tuesday to approve the sale of the former Garfield Elementary School building for $675,000—buyers must agree to a quitclaim deed for the property.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The League of Women Voters of Arkansas asked a federal judge to block new state laws that require extra steps—such as warnings about petition fraud and photo-ID checks—for canvassers collecting signatures. The group claims these measures make it nearly impossible for citizens to place a measure on the ballot and has filed a lawsuit against Secretary of State Cole Jester.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
