CRIME NEWS

  • A Florida couple, formerly of Northwest Arkansas, pleaded guilty to defrauding pandemic relief loan programs using their business Slipstream Creative and were sentenced on Friday to more than nine years combined in federal prison — they misrepresented finances and transferred funds for personal use.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Haas Hall Academy Bentonville placed seventh nationwide in U.S. News & World Report's latest rankings—its Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale campuses ranked 24th, 60th and 124th, while Bentonville High School placed fifth among Arkansas public high schools with 11 of the state's top 20 in Northwest Arkansas. The results were released this week, showing a strong performance by local schools.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • U.S. News—World Report ranked Haas Hall Academy Bentonville seventh nationally this week and its Fayetteville, Rogers, and Springdale campuses as the top public high schools in the state, while Bentonville High School placed fifth with about 3,500 students. Eleven of the state's top 20 public high schools are in Northwest Arkansas, showing strong results in college readiness, state assessments, and graduation rates.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA warned consumers to avoid raw frozen shrimp from Walmart in 13 states (including Arkansas) after a sample of breaded shrimp processed by Indonesia’s BMS Foods showed Cesium-137 contamination that, while below the immediate danger level, may raise cancer risk if eaten frequently.  5 News
