CRIME NEWS

  • A former Bentonville police detective admitted shooting and killing Canada geese in a private neighborhood pond in Rogers last month—according to the Rogers Police Department report.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State government and the Northwest Arkansas Council are splitting the cost of a $1,049,000 study to find new ways to handle wastewater as growth strains local systems. Hawkins-Weir Engineers is leading the study—this regional project will take 18 months and include local input to plan sewer improvements.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is holding a Boots, Badges and Bandages Blood Drive today at Gravette Civic Center and Ozarks Community Hospital from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—donors receive free Zoo tickets and a T-shirt—and it will host another drive Friday at centers in Bentonville, Springdale, and Missouri that offers a chance to win a Kansas City Chiefs tailgate package. Local hospital blood use has hit its highest in about 10 years, pushing officials to call on donors to help meet the growing need.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Record numbers of travelers will hit the highways and airports this Labor Day weekend as AAA reports cheaper flights, hotels and rentals while local gas prices remain near $2.78 per gallon; drivers are advised to start early to avoid heavy traffic.
