ECONOMY NEWS

  • At a conference at the Rogers Convention Center on Monday morning, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and Gov. Sarah Sanders said American farmers faced their worst economic crisis since the 1980s due to low market prices and rising costs. They said relief payments for emergency aid are planned to be presented to Congress this fall—trade deals to ease the crisis are also underway.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community classes—one-time workshops open to the public—are returning to Northwest Arkansas Community College this fall with a baking class called Nuts About Honey on Wednesday led by Chef Ana Saenz and an oil-free cooking workshop with Dr. Michael Henderson and Chef Michael Drazsnzak on Sept. 29 for participants age 14 and up. The college will also offer two design lab classes at its Bentonville campus next month—a ceramic workshop on Oct. 2 and a farmhouse coffee table building session on Oct. 18 for families.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Monday that direct payments for emergency relief are being planned to help farmers facing high costs and low prices amid trade struggles—Governor Sanders and agricultural groups described the situation as the worst farm crisis since the 1980s.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pediatrics Plus opened a new farm campus in Little Flock outside Rogers on Monday to expand its nature-based therapy program for children. The outdoor facility offers occupational, physical and speech-language therapy along with applied behavior analysis through activities like feeding animals and planting gardens.  5 News

  • Keith Allison from Retriever Ridge Kennels in Pea Ridge held a demonstration at Springdale nature center where his retrievers showed waterfowl hunting skills—leaping into cold water to impress local duck hunters.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
