COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A wide range of outdoor activities is scheduled across the region—starting with the Beaver Watershed Alliance’s 'Friendraiser' River Rally in Elkins Thursday and mountain biking races in Eureka Springs this weekend, followed by a historical walk in Eureka Springs, a volunteer day and free astronomy program at Beaver Lake, a grass carp fishing tournament in Bella Vista on Oct. 11, and other events like a bike ride on the Razorback Greenway and a fly fishing film tour in Fayetteville. Local agencies also are accepting burn permit applications for driftwood removal at Beaver Lake through Aug. 15, 2026.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials expect tornado-related repairs to the trail system to finish this month and fixes at the Adult Wellness Center to wrap by November — both projects follow severe storm damage from May 26.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A Legislative Council subcommittee yesterday endorsed a contract for up to $55,000 with Georgia Center for Opportunity Inc. & the Bureau of Legislative Research to gather detailed information on Arkansas' public assistance and workforce development programs.   • County leaders from Benton and Washington discussed a new study at Springdale City Hall Monday that showed living in small towns like West Fork, Greenland, and Lincoln is almost as expensive as in Bentonville when added transportation costs are considered — the study noted that rapid growth could strain roads and budgets.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
